Essay: Velvet? Many Benefits There

English Literature is one of the majors that focused in english skill on Education and Training Faculty of Islamic Institute of Surakarta. In the development of students skill, English Literature holds many events at the last in every semester like Sparring, Bilingual, and Velvet event. All of them are interesting but the most exciting is Velvet because there are many competitions that be held like short movie, comic digital, drama, and debate competition. This event gives many benefits for students in the development of english skill and also opportunity for students to develop their skill in technological field because in Velvet event, student are taught in the using the technology in english study. Not only that, this is also influenced in accreditation of English Literature majors.

In the development of english skill, Velvet event holds drama and debate competition. Drama competition is followed by students of 5th semester. This is in line of their lesson. Because this competition, they try to improve their skill especially in drama study. As we know that elements of drama including about speaking skill, expression of heart, acting, togetherness, and other skills. This is all of the aspects to develop english skill. The debate competition is followed by students of 3rd semester. In the debate competition, the students also given many knowledge like my experience. In There, I became the delegation of my class with my two other friends to follow the competition. At that time, I was really excited and also greatfull because of it, I could develop my skills in english study. I got new experienceand knowledge  that I never got it before. This is really proves that by attend and follow the competition, the students can study more and develop their skill.

In the Velvet event, the students also given knowledge about using the technology for making English literature products like comic digital and short movie. This is combining the elements of english study with technology. This competition be held for groups in every class. Comic digital is result from development of students skill in english study. There are many elements that showed to support the technological product like grammar and writing skill. So, it will be reached a comic digital that serves a product include english study and technology elements. My friends and I followed short movie competition. In the process of making the movie, we did it by together. We were really excited in this competition because this made our skill developed and not only that, we could learn more about using technology.

According to the Velvet event in this semester that be held in 21-23 November 2018, English Literature came back again with gave many benefits to everyone especially in department of English Literature for the students until the lecturer. The students could find much knowledge there and the lecturers also participated as spiker who gave the knowledge. The Velvet event that be held at the last in every semester proves that it can add good quality of English Literature. This is proved from “A” score that gotten by department of English Literature of Islamic Institute of Surakarta at the accreditation of majors in 2017 (taken from official website www.iain-surakarta.ac.id).

In side gives benefits for students at the development of their english skill, this is also gives opportunity for students to develop their skill in technological field like the combining between technology and english study in making a product. In addition, this event also gives quality of the majors to be better. So,  Velvet event should keep continue be held at the last in every semester in department of English Literature of Islamic Institute of Surakarta.
